The gender issue in South Sudan is one of the burning issues that need to be addressed. In almost all aspects of life in the society, women are marginalized. In many communities in South Sudan, the cultural values, traditional and customary norms place women at a disadvantaged position. These societal stereo-types need to be addressed and eliminated. Under GAP, SSIDP seeks to accomplish equality of the sexes and to ensure effective participation of women in every aspect of public life. The main focus here is to educate and enlighten the public against marginalization of women, and the purpose of GAP is the eradication of those cultural, traditional customary stereo-typical norms.
GAP researches into gender issues and provides professional and technical advice to government as well as to civil society organizations, and communities. GAP helps all levels of government come up with proper policies and plans that promote and enhance equality and effective participation of women in all aspects of public life.
