The South Sudan Institute of Democracy and Peace (SSIDP) is a private, independent, nonprofit organization created in 2005. It is committed to promoting sustainable democracy and peace in South Sudan, based on active citizenship, democratic institutions and social justice. SSIDP is governed by a nonpartisan Board of Directors and an Executive. It has membership drawn from South Sudanese at home and abroad. People of other nationalities have also joined SSIDP as members, and are contributing effectively in the promotion of democracy and peace in South Sudan. SSIDP is preparing to launch its new website. RECONCILIATION AND HEALING PROCESS IN THE SUDAN: A South Sudanese Point of View

There are several important issues that bother human society. One of these issues is reconciliation. And before I go into it, we need to understand reconciliation itself. The term, ‘reconciliation’ is derived from the Latin root word ‘conciliatus,’ which means, ‘to come together’ or ‘to assemble’. Essentially, it means the restoration of broken relationship, or the coming together of those who have been alienated and separated from each other by conflict to create a community again. Reconciliation is conflict resolution, but it has greater dimensions and more profound implications.
